Malala Yousafzai is a multi-award winning Pakistani activist for female education, who began speaking publicly about rights to education aged 12. When she was 15, Malala survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban for expressing her opinions. At the age of 17, Malala became the youngest-ever Nobel prize laureate.
Tom Daley is an English diver, specialising in the 10 metre platform event. He began diving aged 7 and he was Britain's youngest competitor at the 2008 Summer Olympics. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, he won two gold medals for England, and he won bronze for Great Britain in the individual competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Multi-award winning singer Taylor Swift became the youngest songwriter ever hired by Sony/ATV Music, aged 14. Taylor’s second album became the best-selling album of 2009 in America, making her the youngest ever Album of the Year winner at the Grammy’s. Taylor’s fifth album, 1989, sold more copies in its opening week than any album in the previous 12 years.
Mozart was a musical prodigy from his earliest childhood. From the age of five, he was composing and performing before European royalty. Aged 17, he became a court musician in Salzburg, but grew restless and travelled, all the while composing. Before his death in Vienna (aged 35), he composed many of his best-known works. Mozart is among the most popular classical composers, whose influence still endures today.
Andy Murray OBE is a Scottish professional tennis player, ranked No. 4 in the world. He began playing tennis aged three and entered his first competitive tournament aged five. Andy has been ranked as British No. 1 since 27 February 2006. He's won many major tennis tournaments, including the 2012 US Open and Wimbledon in 2013. He won the gold medal in the men's singles final at the 2012 Olympics and was BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2013.
Quvenzhané Wallis is the youngest actress ever to receive a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress, for her role as Hushpuppy in the critically acclaimed film Beasts of the Southern Wild. Additionally, she’s the first person born in the 21st century to be nominated for an Academy Award. Wallis also appeared in 12 Years a Slave and starred in the 2014 remake of Annie, receiving a Golden Globe nomination for her work.
Anne Frank's wartime diary, The Diary of a Young Girl, tells of her experiences hiding from the Nazis in Amsterdam during World War II. Tragically, Anne died in a concentration camp in 1945 (aged 15). Her father Otto’s efforts led to the publication of Anne's diary in 1947. It has since been translated into many languages all around the world.
Luke Thomas began cooking aged 12. He's worked alongside several Michelin starred chefs, including Heston Blumenthal and Gary Rhodes. In February 2012, aged 18, Luke became the youngest head chef in the UK at a restaurant in Cookham, which was renamed 'Luke's Fine Dining at Sanctum on the Green'. This was filmed for the BBC Three documentary series Britain's Youngest Chef.
Stephen Sutton, MBE was a charity activist and blogger, known for his blog ‘Stephen's Story’ and his fundraising efforts for the Teenage Cancer Trust in support of teenage cancer sufferers. As of 16 September 2014, Stephen had raised over £4.96 million from over 340,000 donors around the world - over four times his target.
Aged three, Louis Simon Braille suffered a tragic accident, which left him blind. Years later, aged just fifteen, he developed ‘Braille’; a system of reading and writing for blind people, in which characters are represented by patterns of raised dots that are felt with the fingertips
Eleanor ‘Ellie’ Simmonds OBE is a four-time British Paralympic Swimming Champion, with ten world records to her name. Ellie won her first Paralympic medal aged 13. She became the youngest winner of the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2008 and the youngest recipient of an MBE aged 14. Ellie won four medals at the London 2012 Paralympics, including two golds, and broke a further two world records
